Dietary surveys show that adolescents do not meet age and gender nutrients recommended and have inadequate intake of calcium, iron, thiamine,riboflavin and vitamin A &C....(Skiba 1997).
1.Calcium is important for normal muscles action,important component in blood clotting and it is used in construction of bones and teeth.
-calcium is important to women because it prevents osteoporosis when combined with vitamin D.Women are at risk to osteoporosis when they have reached menopause.... intake of Ca & vitamin D supplements is advised.
-calcium is found in milk,cheese,yogurt, whole grains,edible bones of fish and green leafy.

2.Iron is important for synthesis of haemoglobin, increase maternal blood volume.
-Low iron intake to non pregnant women may lead to anaemia.
Low intake of iron to pregnant women may lead to fetal consequence like low birth weight, preterm delivery,affect cognitive and physical development of infant.
-Iron is found in liver,fish,meat and legumes.
